My goodness where do I begin, this is a restaurant in Mount Dora. One of the best walking around towns I’ve ever been in. The downtown area is fantastic with shops, art galleries, and all kinds of things to explore. After the exploring you must go into 1921.
1921 is a non-assuming front where you enter through a
garden like patio. Once inside you are
greeted by a lovely host to guide you to your seat. If only the seats had seat belts! As they say buckle up buttercup this is about
to get real.
The menu is whatever the chef can find locally that
day! So our server told us it might
change daily. I am quite sure the menu
has staples. The Steaks, Lamb shank, Pork
Rib eye and Duck are surely there all the time.
The vegetable plate and fish change often as
do the cheeses on the cheese plate.
Once seated, we looked at the extensive wine list which in
itself is a thing of beauty. We choose a
Chardonnay from California, Tor. An amazing
wine and an amazing value on the list at $79.00!!! And we began to pursue the
menu. Duck deviled eggs three ways and Roasted
oysters were our choices for starters.
The Duck deviled eggs one each with trout roe, pickles and parsley, and
duck bacon. The oysters with escargot
and herbs roasted until perfectly done. We
got 4 and wished we had gotten a dozen they were that good.
Entrees were Red Snapper, Octopus Bucatini, Duck two ways,
Pork Ribeye. Each was spot on for preparation
and temperature. The plates looked like
art. As you know you eat with your eyes
first.
The restaurant has a very liberal corkage policy, $25.00 a
bottle, nothing on the list maybe brought in and no commodity wines. We drank a 2016 Corison Cabernet which was a perfect
choice. Read more about it, and the Tor chardonnay
here The Villages Wino.
I cannot recommend 1921 highly enough. And with the ever changing menu this is a
place you can go often and never get tired of the menu. 5 stars for the entire experience from this
reviewer!
